Preserve Your Quinceanera Dress For Years To ComeMore than likely you've dreamed of your Quinceanera dress your entire life, probably from the time you were a small girl. You know all that the ceremony entails, but out of the festivities, one of the things you've probably been dreaming of is that dress. Now that you've reached that day, you'll want to make sure that you can properly take care of your dress to keep it looking wonderful. No doubt keeping your dress is important to you as a way to remember your Quinceanera. There are simple things that you can do to make sure your dress is preserved and looking beautiful. This way you can keep it and enjoy it for the years to come. Before you have your dress cleaned professionally after your Quinceanera, you'll first want to make sure that you have a nice white cotton sheet. Make sure you wash the sheet in hot water, then on your big day, take off the dress and wrap it up in the sheet. This will insure there is no oxidation that occurs from a plastic bag. Once you have the Quinceanera dress wrapped in the sheet, make sure that you keep it as flat as you can. Keep it away from moist areas and sunlight as well. Then you'll want to make sure you take it to a professional dry cleaner that is trained in preservations. After you get the dress back from dry cleaning, you can choose from a couple different methods of storing it. You can choose to store it in a vacuum sealed box, or you can choose hanging storage for the dress. If you decide to go with the hanging storage option, make sure that you have your original sheet and some tissue paper that is acid free and designed for this use. Take off all the pins, buttons, or sponge padding and store that away from the dress. Then lay the sheet on a bed. Once you have a sheet on the bed, lay the gown on top of the sheet and then stuff the entire gown with the tissue paper that you have. After doing the stuffing, take the gown and totally wrap it up in a sheet. Then you'll want to hang it in a place that is free from moisture or heat. If you decide to use a vacuum sealed box for storage, the process is a bit different. You'll want to purchase a box that is built for archiving as well as tissue that is acid free. Buffered archival paper works for synthetic gowns and unbuffered is best for gowns of natural fibers. Again you'll take off the sponge padding, pins, and any metal on the gown and store them somewhere else. Then fold up the gown, and for every fold, put some tissue paper down to keep it from breaking the material. Then you will want to box up the gown according to the instructions for the box. Make sure that the box for your Quinceanera dress is stored in a place that is dry and that is not near heat. This means that storing it in the basement or attic is not a great idea. You'll probably want to check the box in a couple years and re-box it up again. As you can see, it is easier than you think to preserve our Quinceanera dress. If you keep these ideas and steps in mind, you'll be able to preserve your dress for years to come. This way you'll always have a reminder of this big event in your life.
